A self taught painter, mainly in oil of South Coast scenes, who did not exhibit until he was nearly forty, showing work at the British Institute in 1861, 1862 and 1863, and at the Royal Academy in 1867. According to Graves he signed himself, foe some reason, "W.F. Durant", according to others it was "W.F.R" and "W.R" He also exhibited a picture at Suffolk Street and is said to have been a friend of the Architectural painter David Roberts. At some point he went to America, where he lived for five years. He died in Brighton, November 1873. |
