Artist: Joseph Murray Ince (fl. 1826-1858) Entitled: The Travellers Rest Size: 22 x 34cm Description: Watercolour, Signed & dated Price: SOLD Landscape, marine and architectural painter, both in oil and watercolour. Born in Presteign, Radnorshire. He was a pupil of David Cox, Snr at Hereford between 1823 and 1826. In 1832 he was living in Cambridge where he made many drawings of architectural subjects. He returned to Presteign about 1835 and lived there until his death. He was best known for his small landscapes and coastal studies and was particularly adept at handling the texture of brick and stone. He exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1826 and 1858 and also at the British Institution, Suffolk Street (137 works), the New Watercolour Society and elsewhere. |
