Terence Gilbert Terence Gilbert is a chronicler of the contemporary scene. This he achieves with supreme success in his unique style combining realism with impressionism. He is present at events where action at every level of society is taking place: polo at Windsor, racing at Longchamps, rowing at Henley Royal Regatta, or ballet at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden. The quality of his canvases is based on assured draughtsmanship and exceptional observation enabling Terence to capture an exact moment of action as well as the atmosphere of the setting where the event is happening.Gilbert studied drawing at Camberwell Arts School in London his knowledge of structure and anatomy enable him to portray the bodily tension of a sporting or theatrical moment: the stance of a fighter, the leap of a ballet dancer, a jockey's balance on a race horse and the dexterity of a jazz musician.Gilbert's expertise in using atmosphere and light to orchestrate and interpret a moment in time is seen in his evocative paintings of landmarks such as Shakespeare's Globe and the Royal National Theatre as well as early morning towards Chelsea Harbour, Tower Bridge in the afternoon or evening at the London Eye. By using intermingling colours and acute observation of the changes of light the image is as fresh and spontaneous as a photographer might record a scene in a split second but with added emotion and feeling only an oil painting by Terence Gilbert can produce.
